Tie hands
When two players have the same hand, it is not always easy to determine which is the better hand. Generally, the winner of the same-hand poker game is determined by the highest card. Straights and flushes are won by the highest top card, and two-pair hands are decided by the kicker. However, in some cases, a hand may be a tie if the top two cards are of the same suit. If that happens, the pot is split equally between the players.
A tie occurs when two players have the same five-card combination, but the next card in the hand is a different card. A pair of twos or a pair of sevens are common examples of tie hands. In these cases, the player with the higher pair wins the tie. Some poker boards may be more likely to produce ties than others.
